Burnt, installation, 2023

The work entitled “Burnt” was inspired by a video report published on the BBC website in December 2022. According to the UN report, between 2020 and 2021, the number of cases of domestic and intimate partner violence in Iraq increased by 125%. Many women live their daily lives in forced marriages and constant violence. These women see only one way out of their hopeless situation, suicide. One form of this is self-immolation: in the lucky case, the person will die, but if she survives, she will burn to such an extent that no one will need her anymore.
